Piggy backing….January 7th, 2009 by JillI love this picture. Don’t we all need a bit of a “piggy back” here and there and everywhere. I think so. I love when I can piggy back on my boys, my husband, my family or friends. And everyone provides you such a different piggy back, right? Your friends provide you a different piggy than your significant other or child. What’s so great about our family model is that our boys get LOTS of piggy backing. They can piggy back on my family, Shelley’s family, Mike’s family, Rod’s family….AND all of our friends. Wow, kind of communal huh? But, it works. AND they have so much love for it. Over the New Year, Rod, myself, the boys and our family/friends Stacey, Steve and their kids all went up to Northstar to ski, enjoy hot cocoa, ice skate and fire pit it for a few days. Even better? Jack’s best friend from Kindergarten and their family joined us too!!It was so chaotic it was FUN!!! You know that kind of feeling I’m talking about? It’s so very overwhelming with all the STUFF we had to bring and coordinating skiing, etc, etc, BUT so fun because of the craziness!! Well, one of the nights us adults decided to hit Mikuni’s at Northstar. It was so crazy crowded that we sat the kids at the bar to eat….then sent the kids to the condo with Steve’s 16 year old son Tanner. I called in every hour, but KNEW that Tanner had it covered. Especially since he was not only watching Stacey’s kids, but OURS. Seems like the pressure was on EVEN MORE! Sounds like a fun piggy back right? The boys spend such a great time with us but then got to have that extended playing with the kids. They had a blast!! AND we had a blast. So in essence we had a double piggy back. Stac and I decided (after a few cocktails) to be “twins.” Well, we had been asked the entire time if we were sisters so by the end of the trip, we were in fact full blown blood, coming from the same momma sisters. It’s just how it was. So at Mikuni we decided to play “twins.” We got to spin the wheel and won chopsticks!! Oh yeah!! Chopsticks!! We then decided to rig it and land on $100 gift certificate!! Times are tough so the manager was going to the back of the restaurant to view the film to see if we really were truly honest. SO…we had to spin again…ALL WHILE THE TABLE WAS CHEERING US ON! We landed on a tea cup. WTF? So, we ended up with twin t shirts. It was cute. I wore it during movie night with Stacey and Steve and woke up to Tate and Jack asking me about my shirt!! We had a blast!! I love that we as friends and families have piggy backing rights. You too can have it…just expand the family and friends and be supportive to everyone. Don’t judge; be open. Be open for your family, friends and children. It really does make life extremely easy. Jump on the back of someone you need. We all need people around us everyday to make us smile, laugh, learn and expand. AND the fun part of it all? This is how ALL of our birthdays, holidays or special occasions are. One big fun get together for everyone involved!! Now when Jack asks for a play date this is what he says, “Mom, can Logan come over and play, we eat pizza, we play WII, we have a dance party and then get dessert tonight?” (Of course on a school night too!) Geez, have we set the bar so high for fun, fun, fun??
